A solidarity concert will take place at the Central Railway Station in Kyiv
On February 23 at 7:00 PM, a concert of the Ukrainian American solidarity project “Cold Winter 2026: Kyiv and Seattle Together” will be held at the Point of Invincibility at Kyiv’s Central Railway Station.
The project began on February 13 and includes a series of classical concerts for Kyiv and for Kyiv residents at Points of Invincibility, which will run through the end of February.
The project is organized by The Humanity Funds and the Kyiv Classic Orchestra.
During the concerts for Kyiv residents, classical music is performed by the Kyiv Classic Orchestra under the direction of UNESCO Artist for Peace, People’s Artist of Ukraine Herman Makarenko.
“It is symbolic that this concert of our project is taking place on the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, because at the beginning of the great war, on March 9, 2022, our orchestra went out to Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, where we played with a call to close the sky over Ukraine. Today, we perform with a call for solidarity with Ukraine, which has been living in a full-scale war for four years. We believe and know that societies in the United States and in Europe hear us and stand in solidarity with Ukraine in its aspiration for peace”, Herman Makarenko noted.
This is already the second concert of the Ukrainian American solidarity project, which aims to express support for Kyiv residents and for all Ukrainians living under constant Russian attacks, many of them without heat or electricity.
As explained by Silke Johnstone, CEO of The Humanity Funds, the idea of the project is to demonstrate the solidarity of American citizens with Ukrainians, to provide support in difficult times, and to warm people with music during the harshest winter of this war.
“These performances are also a message from the United States”, noted Silke Johnstone, CEO of The Humanity Funds. “Americans stand alongside Ukraine, not only with aid and advocacy, but also with solidarity. Music knows no borders, and in moments like these it becomes a lifeline”.
The first concert of the Ukrainian American project “Cold Winter 2026: Kyiv and Seattle Together” took place on February 13. It began with an air raid alert, which delayed the audience and musicians, and as the final note sounded, another alert was announced due to yet another Russian attack on Kyiv.
Background. In May 2024, The Humanity Funds and the Kyiv Classic Orchestra joined forces for the charity concert “A Child’s Dream” in Seattle, which brought together more than 500 guests and helped raise funds to support Kyiv’s largest children’s hospital, Okhmatdyt. The current series of concerts continues this shared mission, bringing it directly to people in Ukraine.
