Historic event: the world premiere of the opera "Creonte" took place in Kyiv

On November 11, the world premiere of Dmytro Bortnyansky's opera "Creonte" took place in Kyiv at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The unique cultural heritage, which for almost 250 years was considered lost to humanity forever, has returned to the homeland of its author, Dmytro Bortnyansky, a native of Hlukhiv, in the modern Sumy region.

The opera's manuscript was found in Lisbon thanks to the dedicated research work of Professor, Doctor of Art History Olha Shumilina.

The opera was performed by the National Presidential Orchestra and the National Honored Academic Chapel of Ukraine "Dumka", the role of Creonte was performed by soloist of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, winner of international competitions - Serhiy Bortnyk, the role of Antigone by soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Ukraine, winner of international competitions - Olga Fomichova, the Haemon role by soloist of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, soloist of UNTAM Opera Studio - Danylo Kotok, Stanislav Pashchuk, soloist of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, winner of International Competitions performed the role of Adrasto, Margarita Bilokiz, mezzo-soprano, winner of International Competitions performed the role of Ismene, and harpsichord solo by Olha Shadrina-Lychak, head of the department of ancient music, PhD in Art History.

The conductor and director of the world premiere was UNESCO Artist for Peace, People's Artist of Ukraine, professor Herman Makarenko. It was he who initiated the project “Returning to the World of Dmytro Bortnyansky’s First Opera ‘Creonte’”.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and received strong support from international organizations at the highest global level. The world premiere was held under the patronage of UNESCO, which was personally granted by the Director-General of UNESCO, Madame Audrey Azoulay, as well as under the patronage of Europa Nostra, a leading organization for the preservation of cultural heritage and the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine - Mariana Betsa, Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO - Ernesto Ottone, Secretary General of Europа Nostra - Snežka Kuedvlig-Mihailović and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine - Hennadii Nadolenko addressed all participants and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Ukraine, as well as the media present at the event.
