“Symphony of Ukrainian Fairy Tales” - Kyiv Classic Orchestra’s project for children with disabilities

Launched in June 2024, the "Symphony of Ukrainian Fairy Tales" project provides inclusive and interactive activities for children with disabilities and children who have been physically and mentally affected by the war.

As part of the project, professional actors, game master Natalia Miedinova and Vadym Myroshnychenko, accompanied by the Kyiv Classic Orchestra, “tell” four Ukrainian fairy tales to children: “Dereza the Goat,” “Tongue-tied Hveska,” “The Magic Violin,” and “Kyrylo Kozhumyaka”. The theatrical performances involve active audience participation in the creative process: children learn tongue twisters, play huge colored strings, and even fluff up a featherbed together with the main characters of popular fairy tales.

“Artistic practices help social adaptation and restoration of mental health - both through passive perception of the musical product and through interactive involvement in theatrical performance,” says project author Herman Makarenko, ”and given that the program is based on the best examples of national culture (Ukrainian music, folk melodies, cultural heritage, folklore), it contributes to the emotional, spiritual, educational, and patriotic growth of the younger generation.

The Symphony of Ukrainian Fairy Tales project is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
