"St. Nicholas" returns to the National Opera of Ukraine

On December 7, a charitable concert dedicated to St. Nicholas Day took place, organized by the team of the L.I. Medved Research Center. This project, which has been running for nearly a quarter of a century, had not been held at the National Opera for the past five years due to the pandemic and the full-scale invasion. Now, this cherished tradition has been revived!

This year's concert was dedicated to the Ukrainian Marine Corps, which the Research Center has been supporting since 2014. The audience included marines and their families, veterans of the Marine Corps, members of the Security and Defense Forces, military medics, and scholars.

As per tradition, the concert program featured the Kyiv Classic Symphony Orchestra, a longstanding musical partner of the Research Center, along with the "Credo" Choir and virtuoso solo musicians. The event's dramatic and cohesive program, enhanced by the poetry of Taras Shevchenko and Lina Kostenko, deeply moved the audience. The repertoire included symphonic, choral, and spiritual works by Ukrainian and international composers, enriched with the sounds of the organ, harpsichord, the unique "Ukraine" violin, saxophone, and accordion.

The highlight of the evening was the performance of the "Hymn of the Ukrainian Marine Corps" by soloist Oleksiy Shportko, accompanied by marines. On stage at the National Opera, these warriors were ceremoniously inducted into the Combat Brotherhood of the Ukrainian Marine Corps, receiving the White Cross as a symbol of their commitment.

The emotions that filled the hall were not limited to applause and cries of "bravo". The event left the audience captivated, with many moved to tears, their eyes reflecting gratitude and awe.
