Anthem of Resilience 2022–2026On March 9, at Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), the Kyiv Classic Orchestra presented an unusual concert, “Anthem of Resilience 2022–2026”, addressing an appeal to the free world.
The event marked the fourth anniversary of the orchestra’s first initiative, when, on the 14th day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the musicians gathered in the capital’s main square and performed in support of the President of Ukraine’s call to close the skies.
“We do not want this initiative to become a tradition. As artists and citizens of Ukraine, we hope that 2026 will be the year the war comes to an end”, explains the project’s author and conductor, Herman Makarenko. “Once again, we appeal to the free world and its leaders to help resilient Ukraine bring this war to a close. We reiterate our support for the President’s call, and for the voice of all Ukrainians, that this unjust war must end on fair terms for an independent Ukraine”.
The Kyiv Classic Orchestra performed in the same reduced lineup as
four years ago, when only a small group of musicians, those who had remained in Kyiv, could assemble. This year’s program featured Ukrainian music, opening with the National Anthem of Ukraine and the Anthem of Europe, and concluding with the Anthem of Resilience, our beloved “Oi u luzi chervona kalyna”.
